India Inc will step up hiring next quarter: Survey
NEW DELHI, INDIA: India Inc is all set to step up hiring in the last quarter this fiscal as employers are more optimistic than their counterparts in other nations, said an industry survey released Tuesday.
"Brisk hiring is anticipated by Indian employers during the upcoming quarter," said the Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.
"With 38 percent of employers expecting total employment to increase, 2 per cent forecasting a decrease and 53 per cent predicting no change, the net employment outlook is a robust 36 per cent," it added.
TCS, Wipro to apply just-in-time model to hire freshers
NEW DELHI: Learning from the last year’s turmoil, India’s leading tech firms are now changing tack to just-in-time (JIT) model for hiring freshers. Two leading software companies—Tata Consultancy Services and Wipro Technologies—told ET that they would recruit freshers following the model, beginning January 2010.
The new strategy is quite different than the previous year’s hiring from campuses when they hired software engineers in hordes. These new recruits were kept on bench for many months till they were allocated projects.
Hiring on track: IT firms confirm participation on campuses
As the global economy limps back to normalcy, Indian information technology (IT) companies are ready to hire from campuses.
Last year, placements at the engineering institutes were relatively subdued due to the slowdown in the economy. Many Tier-I and -II IT companies skipped campus visits. As a result, even the premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) were able to achieve only 75-80 per cent placements. And many students had opted for higher studies or jobs in teaching.
Mahindra Satyam to appoint 1,000 freshers by December 15
MUMBAI: IT company Mahindra Satyam plans to appoint 1,000 freshers by December 15, a top company official said.
"The process is on and we will give appointment letters to 1,000 freshers out of the 8,000 selected during campus recruitment by December 15," Mahindra Satyam's Chief People Officer Hari Thalapalli told reporters on the sidelines of a conference here today.
He, however, said that the company might not call all of the remaining 7,000, who got selected during campus recruitment.
Infosys plans to hire 20,000 next year
Mumbai, Nov. 25 Infosys Technologies may hire around 20,000 people at a gross level for the fiscal starting April 1, 2010.
“In the current fiscal, we have said we would be hiring around 20,000. Assuming reasonable growth rates and an attrition rate of ten per cent, we think we would need a similar number next year,” said Mr T.V. Mohandas Pai, Board Member and Head of Human Resources at Infosys Technologies.
Patni to hire up to 1,500 next year
India's sixth largest IT services provider, Patni Computer Systems, has firmed up its hiring plans for 2010. To begin with, it plans to hire 1,200-1,500 employees with almost 75 per cent of this lot being freshers for which the company will visit campuses towards mid-December. As of end of September 30, 2009, the company's total headcount was 13,607.
Axe falls on 330 Nokia R&D employees
HELSINKI, FINLAND: Nokia is to cut 330 research and development jobs in Finland and Denmark as it focuses on launching fewer, but more iconic, phones.
The world's top cellphone maker has launched around 50 models per year, but aims to focus on fewer, more popular models, a spokesman said on Friday.
Nokia has cut jobs and costs across its organisation this year - aiming to cut costs at its key handset unit alone by more than 700 million euros ($1.04 billion) to counter plunging demand.

Big IT to restart hiring come December
IT companies are finally starting to hire. Infosys, TCS, Wipro and even Patni have begun hiring for 2011-12, reports CNBC-TV18’s Kritika Saxena.
